Service Overview

Targeted fixes for gutters that still have life left

Plenty of gutter problems do not require new gutters. A seam that drips, a corner that has opened up, a few hangers that have worked loose or a section that dropped out of line can often be repaired on their own.

Gutter repair starts with finding the actual cause. Water dripping from the middle of a run might be a failed seam, or it might be a low spot where the gutter has sagged and water collects. Overflow at one end might be a clog, a slope problem, or a gutter that is undersized for that roof area. We look before we fix.

Typical repairs include resealing seams and end caps, replacing failed hangers, re-pitching sections so they drain to the outlet, re-attaching downspouts and replacing short damaged pieces where a match is available.

When the problem is behind the gutter

If hangers will not hold because the fascia is soft, re-fastening the gutter only buys time. In that case we explain the option of repairing the fascia first. You can read more on our fascia and gutter attachment repair page.

Common Problems

Gutter problems we repair

The most common reasons homeowners call us about their gutters.

Dripping seams

Sealant at joints breaks down over time and lets water through.

Sagging runs

Sections that dip between hangers and hold water instead of draining.

Gutters pulling away

A gap between the gutter and the house, so roof water falls behind it.

Split or dented sections

Damage from ladders, falling branches or ice that opens up the trough.

Loose downspouts

Downspouts that have separated at the outlet or elbows, or lost their straps.

Storm damage

Sections bent or dislodged by wind or debris during severe weather.

Repair or Replace

Gutter repair or new gutters?

We start from the assumption that repair is worth considering. Sometimes it is not.

Often repairable

Conditions that favor repair

  • A handful of leaking seams or end caps
  • Loose hangers in sound fascia
  • One or two sagging sections
  • Gutters otherwise in good condition
May need replacement

Conditions that may favor replacement

  • Rust-through or splits along much of the run
  • Leaks returning soon after repairs
  • Gutters too small for the roof they drain
  • Widespread damage that makes patching impractical

Factors that affect the decision

The age and material of the gutters, how many problem spots there are, whether matching parts are available, and the condition of the fascia behind them.

When further investigation is needed

Some leaks show up only in heavy rain, and some sagging comes from rot that cannot be seen until the gutter comes off. When that is possible, we say so up front.

Our Process

How gutter repair works

  5. Repair

We seal, re-fasten, re-pitch or replace parts as agreed.

  6. Check

Repairs that depend on matching parts may take longer to schedule. We let you know when we confirm the estimate.

Materials & Options

What goes into a gutter repair

Good repairs depend on the right parts and a clear understanding of how the system should drain.

Sealants

Gutter-rated sealants for seams, corners and end caps, applied to clean, dry surfaces.

Hangers

Hidden or exposed hangers that hold the gutter shape and fasten it to the fascia.

Replacement sections

Short lengths, corners or outlets where a reasonable match is available.

Downspout parts

Elbows, straps and connectors that keep downspouts attached and flowing.

FAQ

Gutter repair FAQs

Can a leaking gutter seam be fixed, or does the section need replacing?

Many seam leaks can be cleaned and resealed. If the metal around the seam is corroded or split, replacing that piece may be the better option.

Why does my gutter sag in the middle?

Usually a hanger has failed or pulled out, or the gutter is holding the weight of wet debris. If the fascia is soft, the hangers have nothing solid to hold on to.

Can you match my existing gutters?

Often, but not always. Profile, size, color and material all matter. If a close match is not available, we explain the options.

What is a Yankee gutter?

A Yankee gutter is built into the roof edge rather than hung from the fascia, and is found on some older homes. Repairs on these work differently from standard hung gutters, so we look at each one individually.

Is it worth repairing old gutters?

If the problems are limited and the gutters are otherwise sound, repair can be sensible. If leaks and sags are showing up all over, putting that money toward new gutters may make more sense.

Do you repair gutters after storms?

Yes. Wind and falling branches can bend or dislodge sections. We assess the damage and explain whether repair or replacement makes more sense.

My gutter overflows even when it is clean. Is that a repair issue?

It can be. Common causes include lost slope, an undersized gutter or downspout, or roof water overshooting the gutter. We look at which applies.

Is the repair estimate free?

Yes. Gutter repair inspections and estimates are free.
