Service Overview

When it is time for new gutters

Gutters wear out. Steel rusts, seams fail one after another, hangers loosen, and sections get bent by ladders, ice and falling limbs. At some point, chasing individual leaks costs more in time and money than the gutters are worth.

Gutter replacement means removing the old system and installing new gutters and downspouts. It is also a chance to correct problems the old gutters may have had all along, such as a size too small for the roof, too few downspouts, or a slope that never drained properly.

Before quoting, we look at the roof area each gutter drains, the condition of the fascia, where water needs to go at the ground, and how the new system will look on the house.

The fascia comes into view

Taking down old gutters often exposes the fascia board behind them. If we find soft or rotted wood, it makes sense to address it before the new gutters go up, since new gutters fastened to failing wood will not hold well. We explain anything like that, with photos, before changing the scope, so you can decide how to proceed with full information.

Common Problems

Signs your gutters may need replacing

One of these on its own may be repairable. Several together usually point toward replacement.

Rust and holes

Corrosion that has eaten through the trough rather than sitting on the surface.

Leaks everywhere

Seams and corners failing along the whole system, not just in one spot.

Persistent sagging

Runs that will not stay in line even after hangers are replaced.

Constant overflow

Gutters that overflow in heavy rain even when clean, suggesting they are undersized.

Fascia damage

Rotted wood behind the gutters that has to be exposed and repaired anyway.

Mismatched patchwork

Years of piecemeal repairs leaving sections that no longer fit together well.

Repair or Replace

Is replacement really necessary?

We would rather fix what you have if it makes sense. Here is how we weigh it.

Repair may be enough

Conditions that may favor repair

  • Problems limited to a few spots
  • Metal still solid along most of the run
  • Sound fascia and hangers
  • Gutters that drain well when clean
Replacement likely

Conditions that favor replacement

  • Rust-through on multiple sections
  • Repeated repairs that do not last
  • Undersized gutters or too few downspouts
  • Fascia repair requiring the gutters to come off

Factors that affect the decision

How widespread the damage is, the gutter material, whether the system was sized correctly, fascia condition, and whether roof or siding work is planned soon.

When further investigation is needed

If you are planning a new roof or siding, it may make sense to coordinate gutter replacement with that work. We can talk through the timing.

Our Process

How gutter replacement works

  1. Request

Send the form with photos of the gutters, or call or text us.

  2. Assess

We look at the gutters, fascia, roof edge and drainage at the ground.

  3. Plan & estimate

We go over size, downspout placement and options, then provide an estimate.

  4. Remove

Old gutters and downspouts are taken down and hauled away.

  5. Install

New gutters are hung, pitched and fastened, and downspouts connected.

  6. Walk through

We review the finished system with you and confirm it drains.

Scheduling depends on weather and material availability. We confirm timing once you approve the estimate.

Materials & Options

Gutter options we can discuss

The right choice depends on the house, the roof and your priorities. These are general categories, not a product list.

Gutter materials

Aluminum is common on homes; copper and steel are other options, each with different cost, appearance and upkeep.

Profiles & sizes

K-style and half-round profiles in different widths. Larger gutters handle more water from big or steep roofs.

Downspouts

Size, number and placement affect how quickly the gutters can empty during heavy rain.

Hangers

The type and spacing of hangers affect how well the gutter holds its shape and pitch.

FAQ

Gutter replacement FAQs

How do I know if my gutters are too small?

If clean gutters still overflow during heavy rain, especially below large or steep roof sections, they may be undersized. We look at the roof area each run drains when we assess it.

Can you reuse my existing downspouts?

Sometimes, if they are in good shape and match the new gutters. Often it makes sense to replace them with the gutters so the system is sized and connected consistently.

What happens to the old gutters?

We take them down and remove them from the property as part of the job.

Should I replace gutters before or after a new roof?

It is usually easier to coordinate them. Roof-edge work can affect the gutters, so doing them together, or replacing gutters right after the roof, avoids disturbing new work.

What if the fascia behind the gutters is rotted?

We explain what we find once the gutters are down and discuss repairing or replacing the affected boards before the new gutters go up.

Can I change the color of my gutters?

Color options depend on the material. We review what is available during the estimate.

Do new gutters need maintenance?

Yes. All gutters collect debris and need periodic cleaning. Guards can reduce that, but no system is maintenance-free.

Is the estimate free?

Yes. Gutter replacement estimates are free.
