Service Overview

Refreshing a paver surface you already have

Many paver patios, walks and driveways do not need to be replaced. They need attention. Over the years dirt builds up, moss and weeds take hold in the joints, joint sand washes out and a few areas settle. The surface starts to look worn and feel uneven, even though most of it is still sound.

Cleaning and releveling addresses that. Cleaning removes surface dirt and growth. Releveling lifts pavers in low or high areas, corrects the bedding underneath and resets them flush with the surrounding surface. Finally, fresh joint material is swept in and compacted so the pavers interlock again.

At the site visit we look at the whole surface, identify the areas that need resetting and check whether anything bigger is going on, such as drainage problems or a base that is failing across the area. If releveling will not solve the problem, we tell you.

Gentle cleaning matters

Aggressive pressure washing can blast joint sand out and etch some paver surfaces. Cleaning methods need to suit the material, and joints usually need refilling afterward. Sealing is an option we can discuss, but it is not right for every paver or every homeowner.

Common Problems

What cleaning and releveling can fix

These are signs that a paver surface needs maintenance rather than replacement.

Weeds and moss

Growth in the joints and on shaded areas of the surface.

Dirt and staining

Built-up grime, organic stains and dull, faded surfaces.

Minor settling

A few low spots or uneven areas that catch water or feet.

Empty joints

Joint sand washed out, leaving pavers loose and rattling.

Small puddles

Shallow dips where water sits after rain.

Loose edge pavers

Outer rows starting to move where joints and edges have loosened.

Maintain or Rebuild

Will releveling solve it, or is it a bigger problem?

Releveling is the right fix for surface-level problems. It is not a substitute for a missing or failed base.

Releveling works

When cleaning and releveling usually helps

  • Settling in a few isolated areas
  • Joints empty but base sound
  • Pavers dirty but intact
  • Drainage generally working
Bigger repair

When a larger repair may be needed

  • Settling across the whole surface
  • Ruts on a driveway
  • Water draining toward the house
  • Edges spreading with no restraint

Factors that affect the decision

How much of the surface is uneven, the condition of the base and edges, drainage, and the condition of the pavers themselves.

When further investigation is needed

Once pavers are lifted, the base may turn out to be thinner or wetter than expected. If so, we explain what we found and discuss whether a more extensive paver repair makes sense.

FAQ

Paver cleaning and releveling FAQs

What is paver releveling?

Releveling means lifting pavers in uneven areas, correcting the bedding underneath and resetting them flush with the surrounding surface.

Will pressure washing damage my pavers?

Too much pressure, or holding the nozzle too close, can blow out joint sand and scar some surfaces. Cleaning should match the material, and joints usually need refilling afterward.

Should I seal my pavers after cleaning?

It is optional. Some homeowners like the look and stain resistance; others prefer the natural finish. We can discuss whether it suits your pavers.

How do I keep weeds out of paver joints?

Full, compacted joints are the best defense. Polymeric joint material can help, along with occasional sweeping and prompt removal of new growth.

Can you clean pavers without releveling?

Yes. If the surface is level and only needs cleaning and fresh joint material, that is all we will recommend.

What if some of my pavers are broken?

Broken units can be replaced during releveling. We look for the closest match, though new pavers may look brighter than weathered ones at first.

My whole patio has sunk. Will releveling fix it?

If settling is widespread, the base is usually the problem, and a larger repair or rebuild may be better value. We will tell you honestly.

Is the estimate free?

Yes. Cleaning and releveling site visits and estimates are free.
