Looking at the whole exterior after a storm
Storms rarely damage just one thing. A wind gust that lifts shingles can also pull soffit loose, bend gutters, crack trim and tear siding. A falling limb can crush fascia, damage a porch overhang and break a window. Looking at only one part of the house can mean missing damage that lets water in later.
This page is about the whole exterior: we walk the outside of the house, note damage to each component, and plan repairs that bring it all back together. For roof-specific damage, see storm damage roof repair; for siding, see siding storm damage.
Where the roof is damaged or leaking, Monarch offers 24/7 emergency roofing service: call (551) 241-0470. Other exterior repairs are scheduled after the visit.
Document before you clean up
If it is safe, take photos of damage and debris before anything is moved. We also photograph what we find. Insurance coverage depends on your policy and insurer; we can document conditions, but we do not make promises about claims.
Common exterior storm damage
These are the types of damage we find most after New Jersey storms.
Wind-torn soffit and trim
Panels and boards pulled loose or blown off the house.
Fallen limb impact
Crushed fascia, dented gutters and broken trim from trees.
Siding damage
Cracked, holed or missing siding that exposes the wall.
Bent or detached gutters
Gutters pulled from the fascia by wind, debris or overflow.
Broken windows or frames
Glass and frames damaged by debris or impact.
Roof damage
Missing or lifted shingles and damaged flashing.
Temporary protection, repair or replacement
Some damage needs immediate protection; the rest can be planned properly.
Damage that is often repairable
- A few torn soffit panels or trim boards
- Isolated siding pieces
- One bent gutter section
- Framing behind the damage still sound
Damage that may need replacement
- Fascia crushed along a run
- Siding damaged across a wall
- Framing affected by impact
- Several systems damaged in the same area
Factors that affect the decision
What was damaged, how far it extends, whether water got in, the age and condition of existing materials, and whether matching materials are available.
When further investigation is needed
Impact can damage framing behind intact-looking finishes. If we find structural damage, we explain whether engineering or permits may be needed. See exterior structural repairs.

Storm damage exterior FAQs
What should I do first after storm damage?
Make sure everyone is safe, stay away from downed wires, and take photos if it is safe. If the roof is leaking, call our 24/7 emergency roofing line at (551) 241-0470.
Is 24/7 service available for siding or trim?
Our 24/7 emergency service is for roofing. Other exterior storm repairs are scheduled after the inspection, with active leaks and open walls prioritized.
Why check the whole exterior and not just the roof?
Wind and debris often damage several components. A full walk-around helps catch soffit, fascia, trim and gutter damage that could let water in later.
Will you handle my insurance claim?
No. Coverage and claims are between you and your insurer. We can provide photos and a written description of the damage we find.
Can damaged siding be matched?
Sometimes exactly, sometimes only closely, especially on older homes. We discuss matching before ordering material.
A tree fell on my house. Can you help?
Tree removal should be handled by a tree service. Once the tree is off, we can inspect and repair exterior damage, and we will flag structural concerns that may need an engineer.
Can you put up temporary protection?
Yes. We can secure openings to keep water out while permanent repairs are planned.
Is the storm inspection free?
Yes. Storm damage inspections and estimates are free.
